June Meeting – Update

After discussing the matter of a June meeting with several club members and other officers, we have decided to plan a social distancing get-together this month.

We will meet at the regular meeting time of 1800 (6:00 p.m. ) Tuesday, June 30, 2020.  The location will be McFarland Park in Florence at the large parking lot located on you left as you take the right curve which leads west.  This is the lot where the Mustang Club has their August car show.  Bring your car and lawn chair, and we will enjoy the scenery of the Tennessee River.  We will try to maintain the correct distance during our visit and, of course, no Chevrolets are allowed near any Fords.

If any member is uncomfortable attending this gathering, then please stay home and stay safe.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.  But if it doesn’t, we will convene at another date as soon as possible.  Bryan Hamilton will have a door prize from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.

So in conclusion, we will meet and enjoy the cars and the sunset.  I will have my camera and it may be possible to photograph a few of the cars with the river in the background.

So stay safe and check on members that are under the weather and hope to see you soon.

24 Hour LeMons

Ford Probe Enters LeMons Race

The Ford Probe Race Team traveled to the Carolina Motorsport Park near Camden, South Carolina to participated in the 24 Hours LeMons “Lemons South Fall”, September 14-15.  The ’94 Ford Probe ran in the Class C division and finished 29th out of 98.  The team is made up of Ralph Stumpe, Bryan Hamilton and Frank Cavin. New to the team was Jeff Gilbert and John Mayfield.  Both Jeff and John are experienced in driving on road courses in fast cars so the team was well prepared.

The 24 Hours of LeMons is restricted to cars that were purchased for a total of $500 or less. The 1994 Ford Probe was purchased in April 2014.  Safety gear, helmets, racing seat, seat harness, tires, wheels, and pipe for the roll cage had to be purchased.  A roll cage was fabricated and installed in the car.  All the interior and the glass, except for the windshield, was removed and a cold air intake and an exhaust header was installed.

1957 Ford Skyliner

if you are a member of the national Antique Automobile Club of America, look at this month’s “center fold” in the July/August, 2018 issue of the club magazine.  The featured car is a 1957 Ford Skyliner owned by Bob Tiffin of Florence, Alabama.

In the article, written by Bob, he states that his car was once owned by the late Charles Mullins, a local area Ford dealer and a former member of the Muscle Shoals Region club.  It was displayed for several years in his dealership’s showroom, along with a 1957 Ford Thunderbird.  Years later, it was owned by another Muscle Shoals Region member, the late Bill Johnson.

Bob Tiffin had this car restored in California and in August, 2017, he displayed it at the 8th Annual All Ford Show & Shine sponsored by the Shoals Area Mustang Club.  I hope you were in McFarland Park that day and got a chance to see it up close.  It is a real beauty.

-Bill Davis, Secretary

Webmaster – Bob’s Skyline was among 16 automobiles nominated for the 2019 Zenith Award held at the AACA Grand Nationals at RM’s Auburn Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana on Memorial Day.

1/2 Year Membership

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the year. As we approach the month of June, we are preparing to process ½ year memberships. The ½ year membership allows new members to join the club for the second half of the member year and pay half the yearly membership fee. The ½ year membership includes the months June through December at a cost of only $20.00 ($25 for non-U.S. members).

Starting June 1st, all eligible new membership applications will be processed as 2019 ½ year memberships. Applications received with a $40.00 payment June 1st through September 30th will be refunded $20.00.

The ½ year membership is for first-time new members only!

The ½ year members receive three bi-monthly issues of ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE magazine (July/August, Sept/Oct & Nov/Dec).

Starting in October, unless a new member requests otherwise, we will cease to process 2019 ½ year memberships. All new membership applications will be applied to the 2020 member year.

New members applying for membership during the October to December time period will receive the Nov/Dec 2019 and all 2020 issues of ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE.

If you have any questions regarding the ½ year membership program, feel free to contact me.

As a reminder, don’t forget to use the complimentary 2019 membership applications sent to each region/chapter. If you have not used these, please do so by September 30, 2019.
